The goal of this Photoshop tutorial is to show an overview of Photoshop’s many features. I’ll use the features and the layers to show you how easy it is to digitally retouch or apply special effects to your photos.

The tutorials that I’ll be presenting are: Using Photoshop: Layers, Editing Layers, Using Photoshop: Lighting Effects, Applying Special Effects, A Simple Gradient, Fading in and Fading out.

So, let’s get started by saying hello to our first digital artist…

For the next few images I’ll be using a picture of a palm tree. I’ve cropped it down so that it only takes up the entire image area; I don’t want this image to be any bigger.

Step 1: Open the Photoshop Panel

Open up your Photoshop program from any of your programs’ start menu. The Photoshop CS6 program doesn’t offer any new features, but it does have a few new features to enhance the overall experience.

Step 2: Choose File > Open.

Go to the folder where you want to save your file. In my case, I’ll save the image file to my desktop.

Choose the image file and you will be prompted with several options. You can choose to open the file in Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS5.

To make sure that Photoshop CS6 is working on the program you will need to simply choose Photoshop.

Note: If you have Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC Extended installed on your PC, then you will be prompted with both of them and you can choose which of the two you’d like to work with. In this tutorial, I will be using Photoshop CS6.

Step 3: Make sure the image is adjusted properly

With the file open in Photoshop, let’s take a look at the image on the right and see if we can make it look better.

Lets make sure you like the image on the right.

Click on the Layers panel and you’ll see the image on the left. You’ll see the background layer, the layers beneath it and the layers beneath that as shown in the following image.

To make sure that you like the image on the right, you’ll need to make sure that the layers that you are seeing are adjusted properly. You can see that on the left image, there are 3 different layers beneath the palm tree layer and there are 4 layers beneath that

Quick Control-L is an extremely useful tool that enables you to change the selected area of the image within the selected canvas, without changing the area you are viewing. It is best used as a proof of concept for any changes you want to make.

The Basic Filters are filters that apply simple effects to an image. Some of the filters are: Sharpen, Soften, Blur, Distort, Posterize and Noir. Most of these filters are similar to the filters in Photoshop. The Photoshop filters have many more features compared to the Elements filters.

The Star Filter is extremely useful for black and white images. It shows how an image would appear if it were in black and white, i.e. once the colours in the photo are removed.

The Adjustment Brush tool is very useful for creating new colour and texture in images. It can be used to create a new photo, add new

New York — It’s hard to believe that Facebook’s first year as a public company was such a whirlwind. We may have been talking about the social network’s IPO on a regular basis here at Inside the Hive, but it’s also been a huge step forward for big business.

So to commemorate the occasion, we decided to take a trip down memory lane and recall some of the moments that defined Facebook’s first year as a public company.

How about the day Facebook first went public?

Its IPO was — of course — underwritten by Goldman Sachs. A Wall Street legend, Goldman Sachs is the firm that helped the US and Japanese emerge as a global economic power after World War II. Back in 1986, Goldman also helped create the Nasdaq stock exchange.

How about that day’s IPO number? Facebook raised $5 billion, making it the biggest IPO of the year and one of the biggest technology IPOs ever — even dwarfing Facebook’s disastrous $6 billion IPO in 2010.

How about that huge drop? The day after Facebook’s IPO, the company’s stock fell nearly 40 percent. That was a big drop for a company that has been growing steadily over the past year.

Who was the first to know?

When it was time for Facebook’s shareholders to show up at its stock offering, they found out about it in the media: News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch and CNN founder Ted Turner were among those who got the first news of Facebook’s offer. It was the first time companies had access to an IPO.

Then what?

As Facebook prepared for its public offering, Facebook did some things others didn’t. One thing Facebook did that no other company has done is release a pre-IPO earnings forecast. For the first time since going public, the company said it expected to post a second-quarter profit of $268 million. When the results came in, Facebook beat its forecast by $3 million.

After Facebook’s IPO, the company was valued at $104 billion. The company had raised $1 billion in private equity early on, but it needed the public markets to get the rest.
